Edge of Darkness trailer out…shot in Mass last year…

October 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hello To All of you MassExtra’s out there…I just wanted to make a quick posting here…

Here is the link for the trailer for Mel Gibson’s Edge of Darkness feature shot in Massachusetts last year in Boston…

A great movie…release date is January 29th..Great action ! I loved the trailer. Best of luck to all of you MassExtra’s out there who were background in the movie.

Also…I wanted to add to this update- I am not a casting company for Extra’s. I blog about what it is like being an extra, the do’s and don’ts and what to expect and what you need to do in order to be an extra in the many movies being shot in and around Boston and South Shore locations. I have received several emails asking me about casting background extras and can I get them into the movie. I will pass along casting calls and the latest movies being shot in Boston. It would be best to sign up with email notifications from Boston Casting and CP casting and they will contact you if they are looking for background actors, union or non union or holding open casting calls for an upcoming feature being shot in Boston. That is the job they do and do it well. It puts me into a awkward corner when someone emails me to ask if I can put them into the current movie being shot. I have no say in that decision and I do not want to get any nasty emails from the two casting agencies telling me I am overstepping their shoes. Hollywood East is here to stay and we should be very content with all of what is happening around the Bay State. Key thing here is to keep your headshot up to date, your comp card current and make sure the casting agencies have your current email address so they can keep you in mind for casting calls.
Have a great Day and keep smiling, you never know when your gonna get that call!

A few words from the board room

October 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hello To All…..craigphoto2 I have been busy over the late Summer and early Fall and I have not had the chance to make any new postings here at MassExtra2.com. Its been crazy across Hollywood East recently. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz with their feature being shot in East Bridgewater and Boston locations. Now known as KnightandDay,which was called Witchita. Also Ben Affleck is shooting The Town all over Boston..kewl stuff I must say. Those Mass Tax credits are really working. I am so impressed about all of the Background Extra work being handed out for these features…Shooting continues with the ZooKeeper and its stars Kevin James, who by the way had Mall Cop last Spring shot in Burlington Mass and Braintree Mass Malls. I did do some background in that, though it has to be noted that I did not see myself in any of the scenes shot at Burlington. Anyways…I am excited about the upcoming Plymouth Rock Studios and someone mentioned to me the other day that a production company may be setting up shop in one of the buildings at the Hingham Shipyard area.

What else can I tell you?? Oh South Shore Casting has set up shop at the Hanover Mall, which is pretty cool for those who are seeking to knock on their door looking to get into the movies. Its pretty much for the young at heart at this time.
Going back to Tom Cruise and his new film being shot in Mass, a pretty impressive scene was shot in Bridgewater at a cornfield that featured a large explosion with a plane that was brought in sections. Its great to see the South Shore on Film again and what a boost to the local economy,Thanks Tom! I don’t want to sound like a broken record here, but Tom,how about checking out Hull Mass?? Your buddy Martin Scorcesse shot Shutter Island at Pemberton Point! We have a great beach here for locations for your film,as well as Cohasset, and Hingham. Did anyone notice lately on TV that the Eastwick production bypassed Cohasset for exterior locations and are using Rhode Island…argh! The Witches of Eastwick, shot back in the early 80’s was shot in Cohasset..Knock knock Hollywood,Don’t forget about us starving MassExtras here on the South Shore.. Well that is it for now folks,I will post more often now with all of the Hollywood Happenings here in Massachusetts, that is why we call it Hollywood East now!

Before I get another 200 emails,
let me try and answer a few “Frequently Asked Questions”,
about our Open Casting Call this Friday for “The Town”:

[1] SHOULD I BRING A PHOTO/HEADSHOT/RESUME TO THE CASTING CALL?
We will take a photo there, but it’s always a good idea to bring a recent photo — and it should go without saying that if you are an actor you should bring your headshot AND resume to any and every casting call/audition.

[2] IS THIS CALL JUST FOR EXTRA WORK?
No, this call is for speaking roles, special bits, AND extra work.

[3] WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THIS CASTING CALL? SHOULD I PREPARE ANYTHING?
You don’t need to prepare anything. Some people may be given a line or 2 to read.

[4] ARE YOU *ONLY* LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WITH BOSTON ACCENTS?
No, you can attend even if you don’t have a Boston accent.

[5] CAN MY KIDS COME? WHAT IF I’M 17? IS IT REALLY 18+?
It’s REALLY 18+, only adults age 18 years and older as of Sept. 1 should attend.

[6] IS THIS UNION OR NON-UNION?
ALL (18+) are welcome. Current paid up SAG/AFTRA members may come to the front of the line to find out where to go and how to register.

[7] WHEN DOES THIS SHOOT? NIGHTS? WEEKENDS?
The move shoots starting in Sept. until Thanksgiving. Most movies shoot Monday thru Friday during the day when daytime scense are filmed and at night when night scenes are filmed. Sometimes they shoot on a weekend.

[8] I CAN’T MAKE IT FRIDAY, WHAT DO I DO?
If you absolutely can’t make it, you should go to www.cpcasting.com and click on
CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD A SIZE CARD
